some of most strange heary creatures - part 1

six heary animals I've chosen for their weirdness, they are strange because of their "hear cuts", but also because of other characteristics & behaviors we're going to see.

I tried to classify the animals by degree of originality, in this first part we'll see numbers 6 to 3 & later the rest three in the part 2, let's start!

ps: don't forget to click on animals pictures to enlarge :)

komondor dog & its heavy corded coat

it's 27 to 30 inches (69 cm to 76 cm) tall at the withers, making the komondor one of the larger common breeds of dog (the largest is the the english mastiff).

The body is not overly coarse or heavy, however, and people unfamiliar with the breed are often surprised by how quick and agile the dogs are.

komondor long, thick, strikingly corded white coat is the heaviest in the canine world, it is soft and fluffy, however, wavy and tends to curl as the puppy matures.

a fully mature coat naturally forms tassels, or cords but some help is needed in separating the cords so the fur doesn't turn into one large matted mess.

once cords are fully formed, shedding is very minimal with this breed, contrary to what one might think. The only substantial shedding occurs as a puppy before the dreadlocks fully form.

the komondor's coat color is white. however, a working Komondor's coat may be discolored by the elements, and may appear off-white if not washed regularly.

emperor tamarin & its wilhelm II's mustache

its name was intended as a joke, because of its similarity with the german emperor wilhelm II, but finally become its official scientific name.

the emperor tamarin lives in the southwest amazon basin. lives deep in tropical rain forests and also in open tree-covered areas. this primate is diurnal, spending most of its time in the trees with quick, safe movements and broad jumps among the limbs.

the emperor tamarin's fur is predominantly grey colored, with yellowish speckles on its chest. its hands and feet are black and the tail is brown.

outstanding is its long, white mustache, for which I guess he was declared emperor & which extends beyond its shoulders.

the animal reaches a length of 9 to 10 inches (24 to 26 cm), plus a 14 inches (35 cm) long tail. It weighs about 300 to 400 g.

white-faced saki monkey & its alien look

males are black with a white face and black nose & females brown with white stripes along the side of the nose.

the white-faced saki monkey is a species of saki monkey, a type of new world monkey, it's found in brazil, suriname, guyana, french guiana & venezuela. the primates usually inhabit the lower to middle canopy levels of forest. they are active during the day and will spend most of their time in the trees, only rarely coming down to the ground. they mostly use all four limbs to walk, climb or leap but sometimes they will hop on the back two legs and this has earned them the nickname ‘flying jacks’ in guyana.

the white faced saki monkeys live in small family groups with one male, one female and their offspring. male and female infants are born the same color as the female; males begin to show adult coloration at two month.

the white faced saki monkeys’ diet consists of fruit, seeds, flowers, leaves and some animal prey such as small birds and bats. They use their canine teeth to crack hard nuts. They also eat termites, which are high in iron content.

these animals have loud territorial calls. An aggressive display starts with a body shake, an arched posture and a growl; then they use their whole body to shake a branch.

the second part, the top three & the winner: some of most strange heary creatures - part 2 & winner!
